Doctrine & Devotion

Mailbag

You guys sent in so much mail we can't get to it all. We hit as many as we could without going too long and we will be working in a little mailbag into every episode. We talk about the second commandment, reading books, being baptist, Jimmy's productivity tips for the iPad Pro, confessionalism, pencils, and more.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/doctrine-and-devotion/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Spiritual Feeding

Today Jimmy and Joe talk about how they proactively feed themselves spiritually: from the ministry of the word, to prayer, to corporate worship. The Christian life is not about “letting go and letting God,” but about holding fast to the truth of the gospel.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/doctrine-and-devotion/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Les and the Local Church

Episode 05 features our first special guest! Last week Les Lanphere was in town to begin shooting his documentary, Calvinist. Since we were hanging out anyway, we decided to throw up the mics and talk with Les about the local church. We discuss the importance of the local church in the life and faith of believers, how it feels for Les to be Tanner's sidekick on The Reformed Pubcast, how Joe loves Jimmy “warts and all”, and we eventually allow Les to share a little about his doc'.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/doctrine-and-devotion/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

All The Bad Things

In this episode Jimmy and Joe sit down to talk about all the “bad things” they do. Or, at least three things that are frequently considered to be bad by some modern Christians: alcohol, cigars, and tattoos. This was prompted by an article written by Dr. Paige Patterson, President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary called, “Concerning Alcoholic Beverages”. It expresses the view of not a few Christians, and we were eager to talk about it, the condemnation of cigars, and the taboo tattoos that some of us have literally gone through the pain of obtaining. Let's admit right here before you jump in: Jimmy is really annoyed. Bonus: Joe is harassed by a spider during while recording.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/doctrine-and-devotion/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Faith and Family

Joe and Jimmy hang out and talk about family life and ministry. What does it mean for family to be a priority, to be our first ministry? Why does Jimmy need two cups and a sleeve when ordering a Starbucks Americano? Is there only one way to disciple our children? Why can't Joe pronounce “integral?” What is important to remember when we are encouraging our spouse? And there's more to cover in this 45 minute podcast.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/doctrine-and-devotion/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Can Baptists Be Reformed?

In our second episode Jimmy and Joe sit down to talk through the concept of “Reformed Baptists.” What does it mean to be “reformed?” Is “reformed baptist” an oxymoron, or is there a sense in which baptists can legitimately be reformed? Also in this episode Jimmy makes stuff up about John Piper, makes fun of Grudem's Systematic Theology, and Joe explains why “Calvinists should be the happiest suckers on the planet.” How do you like the quality audio we're rocking? That's not just because we got new gear, but because media-wizard Justin Bond (Engineer/Editor) knows how to work his magic like a boss.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/doctrine-and-devotion/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

On Backsliding – Episode 01

It's our first episode! Thanks for checking it out. As this was our first attempt to record a podcast with little equipment and a lot of ignorance please forgive the quality of our audio. Many mistakes were made—like Jimmy being afraid of the mic and sitting too far from it. But all of this is now being addressed by a professional–the very talented Justin Bond of J. Bond Media. So you can expect a better experience all round next week! But what we got for our first episode was still a lot of fun and we think it will be an encouragement to you. This week we're talking about “backsliding:” What it is, how we find our way into it and out of it. We also share some great books that have been helpful to us in our own struggles with sin and failure.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/doctrine-and-devotion/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
