The Expository Pulpit: A Reminder from Puritan Jeremiah Burroughs

R. J. Coates and J. I Packer once wrote, “A well-worn Bible is an impressive if not a beautiful sight.” Faithful Christian living is largely a matter of looking to God’s Word and humbly submitting to what we hear and see there. This is the reason the mission of Truth For Life is “to teach the Bible with clarity and relevance.” We believe that God has ordained that by means of biblical teaching and preaching, “unbelievers will be converted, believers will be established, and local churches will be strengthened.”

Peace in a Hostile World

Though he died in 1980, John Lennon’s music remains influential. His lyrics from the song “Imagine” have become a kind of contemporary mantra:

An Advent Prayer Suggestion from Alistair Begg

Dear Friend,
Are you getting ready for Christmas? And if so, what’s involved? Making preparations for food, presents, travel, and festive gatherings are expected and familiar. The joy of family reunions combined with the sights and sounds that bring good cheer provide moments of reflection and wonder. Perhaps, like me, you have to admit just how easy it is to be distracted by what is good and even miss out on what is best. It is one thing to sing, “Let every heart prepare Him room,” while personally failing to make the necessary preparations.

God in Us: Three Evidences of the Lord’s Presence in Our Lives

Doubt isn’t unusual for the Christian. If we take a brief inventory of our spiritual pilgrimages, many of us will recall times when we’ve faced uncertainty, wrestling with whether our faith is genuine. Aware of this, John said that he wrote his first epistle “that you may know that you have eternal life” (5:13).

Jesus, Zacchaeus, and Expecting the Unexpected in Evangelism

In his work on the life of Jesus, Alfred Edersheim called first-century Jericho “the Eden of Palestine, the very fairyland of the old world.” It was a beautiful and prosperous city on a major crossroads. And in this city, according to Luke 19, a prosperous man named Zacchaeus lived and worked as a chief tax collector.
