Today we dove into a section of John 10 (with a few interruptions for commentary on the weather outside my unit) and then looked at some elements of Aquinas’ commentary on the same text. Then we read an article that contained hagiography concerning Thomas and considered the kind of thinking that lies behind such perspectives.

A Multi-Faceted Dividing Line
James White, March 16, 2023March 16, 2023, Abortion, Christian Worldview, Church Fathers, Church History, Debate, Exegesis, Homosexuality, Pastoral Theology, Personal, Post-Evangelicalism, Reformed Baptist Issues, Roman Catholicism, The Dividing Line, Theology Matters, Thomism Covered a wide variety of things yet again on the program today, so a little something for everyone. Started off with the new Roman Catholic apologetics book against Scripture titled, “The Obscurity of Scripture,” and talked a bit about the obscurity not of Scripture, but of Rome itself. We also spent some time reading through Schaff’s discussion of Pope Honorius. Then we moved over to the topic of my sermon from Sunday at Apologia and considered the suffocating application of external philosophical systems when it comes to the breadth and depth of divine revelation. Talked for a while about the upcoming Saddleback appeal with the SBC, and finished off with a quick review of the incredibly childish comments of the Lt. Governor of Minnesota. Road Trip: “Reasoning with the World – Acts 24:24-27”, Apologia Church, South Jordon, Utah, 4/1/23
The moral and ethical collapse of the West is happening right before our eyes, and accelerating quickly. Only yesterday the President of the United States issued an official proclamation for the “Day of Transgender Visibility” in which it was stated, “Transgender Americans shape our Nation’s soul.” How do we balance the call to sacrificial suffering in the name of Christ with the prophetic call to be a witness in the darkness? We consider this weighty subject today.

The Conflagration That is the Christian Nationalism Debate
The net has been an inferno of late with everyone choosing sides, circling wagons, loading guns, and opening fire, all, it seems to me, to no avail. I basically spent today exhorting folks to step back, think, breathe, maybe even think about relaxing a bit and listening to viewpoints other than your own. I am sure that advice will be ignored by many, but, you can try! Had some fun along the way, including starting off playing a portion of a new rendition of the 2nd Psalm in Germany sung by Tobias Riemenschneider which you can listen to here.
