The Marathon Ends: Final Road Trip DL (for Six Weeks Anyway)

Managed to pull off a solid internet connection from a slight wide spot in the road called Lordsburg, New Mexico (really sad little town…lots of abandoned buildings). We covered a wide variety of things, including announcing the upcoming debates, April 24th and 25th, in Lafayette, Louisiana, with Catholic Answers apologist Jimmy Akin (sola scriptura, and “How Does a Man Have Peace with God?”). We discussed conversion, anthropology, and more, looking at Ezekiel 36, Titus 2, and even an old article Robert Gagnon reposted about John 6:39.

Road Trip Dividing Line: It Wasn’t Broke, We Fixed It Anyway
James White, May 18, 2023May 18, 2023, Church Fathers, Church History, Debate, Homosexuality, Personal, Road Trip, Roman Catholicism, The Dividing Line, Theology Matters, Thomism Ok, so its a bit herky jerky at the start but it clears up after about 20 minutes. – RichSo I was a bit worried when Rich said he was going to do something different–and this time I was right. The first part of the program is, well, sadly, not overly useful. I talked with Pastor Derrick Melton about his ministry, my many visits to Pryor, and his knife making skills. Unfortunately, most of that won’t work for you. You can skip past all the problems by going to this time stamp. From there we addressed a little Andy Stanley, the upcoming Women’s Conference at the SBC, and then I addressed the comments made by Matthew Barrett and Carl Trueman on the new Credo Podcast, which you won’t know about if you have ever challenged them at all, since they went on a blocking spree on Twitter today. But it is important to see this move to create a new ecumenism based upon dividing over Thomistic metaphysical formulations rather than, well, the gospel. Troubling times indeed!

The Episode to Treat Insomnia
James White, August 10, 2021August 10, 2021, Church Fathers, Church History, Eastern Orthodoxy, Exegesis, General Apologetics, Islam, The Dividing Line, Theology Matters Yeah, I know. I did warn everyone beforehand saying this would be a seminary-level program, and, well, it was. Just a little discussion of today’s journey and where I am before getting into Gregory’s confession of faith once again. For some reason I really felt like I need to provide a lot of background information today, so, I did. After spending some time with Gregory I moved over to the Islamic area and started working toward making the case that the Qur’an does, in fact, misrepresent the Christian faith, and in particular, the Trinity, but again I spent so much time giving background information I never even got started! But we will get into it. If you like this kind of study, you’ll enjoy this one. Or, if you are having trouble sleeping, well, it might help with that, too!

90 Minutes of Open Phones on the Dividing Line
James White, August 24, 2023August 24, 2023, Exegesis, Musings, Pastoral Theology, Pauline Studies, Personal, The Dividing Line, Theology Matters I started off with a few comments on the coming mask mandates, etc. Then, we took quite a variety of questions today from our callers! We discussed head coverings and Michael Heiser’s odd views on 1 Cor. 11; Hebrews 1:10 and its citation of Psalm 102; angels and demons today; how to translate the Greek term θέλω (thelo); and finally a discussion of justification, confession, and the Lord’s Supper.
